What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses practical, modern and well researched strategies to help people make significant and positive changes in their lives within a relatively short period of time.
How does it work?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy focuses on the present and future and not on the past; together we look at what you want to achieve and I will ask you to consider your preferred future, for instance, what would be better if your problem had improved? what would have changed? what would you be doing differently?
So long as you are willing to make changes to the way you think, the therapy can be highly effective in relieving the symptoms of stress and anxiety. Focusing on solutions means we do not dwell on problems, instead we:
- Acknowledge where you are currently
- Identify where you want to be
- Help you to make the necessary changes
What happens in a session?
It is a collaborative process and it is important to understand that change happens because you want it to and because you are prepared to take the necessary steps to enable it to happen.
The initial consultation is designed to identify what you want to achieve, how hypnotherapy can help you, how many sessions you are likely to need, as well as providing a detailed explanation of how the brain works. You will receive an audio to listen to between sessions which will support the effectiveness of the hypnotherapy.
At subsequent sessions we focus on solutions rather than dwelling on problems. You will be encouraged to imagine your preferred future, a future where you have a more useful perspective on the quality of your life. Then in a relaxed state of hypnosis you can consolidate what has been discussed
What can it help with?
It is different to other types of hypnotherapy in that it uses a specific structure, combining trance with an understanding of how the brain works. It is a collaborative process and works most effectively when the client is engaged and committed to change.
Hypnotherapy can be used to help all kinds of issues including stress and anxiety, depression, confidence and self-esteem and can help people cope better with physical conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and some chronic pain conditions.
It can help you to challenge negative thought patterns that can seem to be hard wired into your brain, driving your responses and behaviours. We know from research into neuroplasticity that the brain can indeed change throughout our lives, forming new neural connections that allow us to change how we think and act, allowing us to be more positive, calmer and self-confident. Changing your thought patterns puts you back in control of your life; you feel more motivated, less stressed and more able to set and achieve those goals that are important to you.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process and positive change happens when a client is fully engaged in the process and prepared to commit to the necessary steps to enable it to happen. Outcomes may vary from person to person and results cannot be guaranteed, however most clients experience positive results in a relatively short period of time.
